Play Ball!

Welcome Indians' fans to another boys of summer season. It's opening day. March 31. Predicted weather at the opening pitch - in the mid 50s. Now - it's in the 20s. But remember, it's Cleveland. Wait a second and the weather will change.
Here's to a great season of baseball. Let's hope they don't lose the opener. If they do, they can't serve pop and beer this year because they lost the opener to uncork them. Old kid joke!
Here's roundin' third and headin' home.....

Holy Week

St. Adalbert Church in Berea, Ohio, still continues the tradition of covering statues during Holy Week. This practice helps worshipers to dispel distractions in church and concentrate on the sufferings of Jesus Christ. Not too many churches do this any more. It's quite a sight when first encountered.

March 17th

A 'top of the mornin' to all today on St. Patrick's Day. Wear a bit of green - never orange - and enjoy a glass of green beer with your corned beef today. Here's a bit of Irish humor - Irish diplomacy is the ability to tell a man to go to hell so that he looks forward to making the trip.

A day full of blessings to Gerry today who is undergoing back surgery this morning.
Gerry update - Surgery went well. He will be heading home today or first thing tomorrow.
Have a great day!

More blizzard photos

Here's a few photos of the backyard. Just a little snow. The dogs couldn't get out in the back so Bob dug a little trench for them as well as moving the snow away from the patio doors. Global warming, huh.

Florida

Justin and I sure picked a good time to head south. It was cold down here yesterday didn't even reach 60 degrees. We were still in shorts and with the convertible top down. Here are pictures from the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park. Right is Lou the hippo.

Blizzard of March 2008

These were the roads at 7 a.m. Saturday - yes, there was a good reason why we were out then - and the other two were taken about 8 p.m. That's Jessie's Tootsie standing in the snow - which Bob snowblowed the 4th time today - which is almost up to her belly . It was reported that it snowed 2" every hour last night and today. Hey, you gotta love Cleveland!

ice damage

Thought you might like to see the excitment we had about 5:00am Wednesday morning. Divine intervention protected our home. The power lines were torn down-but we still had power. Some damage to the gutter, still need to check the roof. We consider ourselves VERY blessed. Hope everyone in Ohio is fairing well duiring the Blizzard of '08.

Cleveland's March 5 ice storm

Ice covers the roads, driveways, tree branches and yes, even windows in parts of Greater Cleveland. Note the frozen window on the left behind the icy ornamental grass.
But the ice storm didn't deter the birds from the feeder! Yep, that is a bluebird munching away there.

Folks, think warm! Just 16 more days 'til Spring!

Jon's SDSU debut

Congrats to Jon, Roy's youngest son, who pitched well in his inaugural SDSU mound appearance! Keep going, Jon!

BERGER EXCELS*** Jon Berger, a transfer from the College of Southern Nevada, was impressive in his collegiate debut on Monday at University of San Diego. *** The 6-2 right-hander from Las Vegas tossed seven innings of shutout baseball, scattering four hits with one walk and three strikeouts to pick up the win. *** The Toreros hit just .167 against him for the game.

SDSU newcomer Jon Berger, a junior right-hander from the College of Southern Nevada, was Monday's pitching star. Making his collegiate debut, Berger (1-0) went seven innings, giving up no runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Only two USD runners reached as far as second base against him and he allowed more than one base runner in an inning on only one occasion.
