Happy 29th

A very happy 29th birthday to Chip DuMound, our youngest.

He's spending it in Norway, working for an oil service company.

Enjoy the day, Chip, and have a great dinner on your special day. Maybe even a good beer and piece of cake - although the two don't mix very well.

Happy Birthday!

Aunt Dorothy's passing

Aunt Dorothy Hoffstetter Hertzel passed tonight shortly before 11 p.m. Dec. 16. She held on to life as long as she could. She had that tough, German determination that never quit...until a few moments ago.

She was married to Franklin Hertzel, our uncle and brother of our mother, Eunice Hertzel Berger. She leaves a son, Franklin Dale Hertzel and Brian, who died in January 2009.

Her daughter-in-law Jeanne Hertzel was by her side often since her son did not visit her much. Jeanne, you were a blessing to her.

Aunt Dorothy was our last living Aunt...and boy, did she live - having traveled to countries many only read about in books. And she loved learning sooo much. She received her Ph.D. at the age of 66 and it was published when she was 70!

God bless you, Aunt Dorothy. And say Hi to all the Bergers and Hertzels you see.

HERTZEL DOROTHY M. HERTZEL, PhD (nee Hoffstetter), 95, of Brooklyn, OH. Widow of Franklin W. (Orrin Ide Orchestra), she entered the next level of consciousness free from earth-bond restraints at the Parkside Villa Health Facility on December 16th. A lifelong resident of Cuyahoga County she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen Hoffstetter. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Jr.; and son, Brian. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Debbi of Irmo, SC.; daughter-in-law Jeanne of Brooklyn, OH.; grandchildren Lisa of Canton, Christopher of Grafton, Stephen and his wife, Jackie of Pittsburgh, Christine also of Pittsburgh, Katie Hertzel of Brooklyn and Cassie of Irmo, SC.; great-grandchild Lucas; a niece and several nephews. The family will receive friends MONDAY 2-4 AND 7-9 P.M. AT THE WALTER MARTENS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 9811 DENISON AVE. (PARKING ENTRANCE OFF W. 99 ST.). First Day of Spring, 2010

It's Spring in Northeast Ohio! Really! The heat kicked on a few times this morning but 50 degree weather is in the forecast. Can't wait! Here's a few crocuses that broke through the ground. Cousin Mary Kay in Iowa has snow. Well, let's keep that 4-letter word there!

Ohio, I love you!

Joseph Tusken is 3!

Joey turned 3!! I took him to the store all by himself to pick out his birthday mix. As we were walking out the door, I asked, "What kind of cake do you want for your birthday?" He said, "Pineapple." So we went to Wal-Mart and bought a can of pineapple for his Pineapple Up-Side-Down Cake.

He was especially excited about the cake and was making silly faces while eating it.

Welcome 20-10

A new year seems to always bring resolutions. There may be no better resolutions than those written by S. Francis of Assisi.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
